It’s been as a busy year for motorists as for everyone else, and the AAA Mid-Atlantic issued a year’s end report about the state of driving in the region.
Some of the best news are a 10% decrease in traffic deaths in Maryland – a state described by Jon Stewart as a “traffic jam”. The state has managed to reduce the gruesome toll by cracking down on drunk driving, as well as improving truck and SUV safety.
In general, a fewer percentage of Americans are dying on the roads – 2011 saw the lowest number of fatalities per 100,000 residents since 1949, according to figures released by the Transportation Department and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
One hopes that this is a trend that will continue for many years to come.
